Funeral Services at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 2, 2004, in St. James Episcopal Church, 5757 Solomons Island Rd., Lothian, MD. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 905 Galesville Rd., Galesville, MD. Obit., Catonsville Times, 21 Apr. 2004: Eleanor Dosh Eleanor Trapnell Hilleary Dorsey Dosh died of congestive heart failure March 31 at Bon Secours Hospital. The Catonsville resident was 91. Known as Polly, she was born in Montclair, N.J., and earned an English literature degree from Hollins College in Roanoke, Va. She later studied at Johns Hopkins University. In 1936, Mrs. Dosh worked at Hutzler's department store on Howard Street, supervising the telephone home-shopping service. She wed John Hilleary in 1941, but the marriage ended in divorce. After accepting a position with Rice's Bakery in 1950, Mrs. Dosh oversaw a staff of 125 at 25 neighborhood stores. She wrote a training manual that she felt "incorporated much of the idealism and business acumen of Emery Rice," the company's president. Mrs. Dosh resigned in 1965. She began investing in Baltimore real estate by buying a house in the Pinehurst section. Mrs. Dosh eventually acquired residential properties in Catonsville and Anne Arundel County. A son, Scott Hilleary of Catonsville, noted, "She was very entrepreneurial. She was frugal, and when times were tight in the 1930s, she made prudent investments in real estate." In 1965, Mrs. Dosh began assisting senior citizens through the Howard County Department of Social Services in Ellicott City before retiring in 1976. That same year, she married Dr. Stanley Dosh, a longtime University of Maryland Dental School professor. He passed away in 1989. As a world traveler, Mrs. Dosh sailed on the Konigstein, France and Queen Elizabeth II, as well as banana boats operated by United Fruit Lines. She belonged to the Woman's Club of Catonsville, National Society of Colonial Dames, Soldiers Delight Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Jefferson County, W.Va., Historical Society and the Pioneer Camellia Society of Maryland. Another son, John Hilleary, also resides in Catonsville. The Rev. William Ticknor, rector at St. James Parish in Lothian, presided at the funeral service. He commented, "She was truly an amazing lady. She had a great sense of humor." | |
