- His daughter was born in Maryville, California, where he and his family were living in the 1860s. The 1867 Pacific Coast directory says that he was a tax collector in Yuba Co., California. According to his 1897 passport, he was working in the lumber industry. In the later part of the century the family lived in eastern Washington state. [2]
