- The only places that I've seen Susan/Susannah's parents given as Christian and Margaret are on rootsweb trees, so right now this is a theory that needs some confirmation!
Note the problems with his wife's and daughter's ages. The link between him and his wife and his daughter is very tentative. Parthemore names his wife as "Maria-Magdalena Toot," which (rightly or wrongly, I don't know) conflates her with her sister Magdalena. I've also seen her birth year given as 1746, which would certainly solve the age issue relative to her daughter. But, her parents were married in 1755. For more here, see under his wife Margaret Toot's page.
The name is surely a derivation of "König." One tree on the web shows him as the son of Johann Georg Konig, b. in Germany; m. to Maria Catherine Gertraud. No dates. Children born in Lancaster, Berks Co. Unsourced, however.
There is a Christian King is in York Co. in the 1790 census (1 white male over 16, 1 under; 2 white females over 16)
Note this, in Laws passed in PA in 1831:
88. An act for the relief of CHRISTIAN KING, a soldier of the revolutionary war.
The State Treasurer is authorized to pay Christian King of Bedford County, a soldier of the revolution, forty dollars as a gratuity and compensation in full for revolutionary services. 15 Mar 1831.
Here is another story about him From this source: Notes and Queries Historical Biographical and Genealogical: Chiefly Relating to Interior Pennsylvania. Edited by William Henry Egle M.D., M.A. Third Series, Vol. I, Harrisburg The Daily Telegraph Print 1887 (http://genealogytrails.com/; also on books.google.com):
"Christian King, the son of William King, was born near Middletown, Pa., February 1, 1758. Although but a boy, at the outset of the Revolutionary struggle, he entered into the service, and was with Capt. Crouch's company in the skirmish at Chestnut Hill where he was slightly wounded. He subsequently served on the frontiers. When the new county of Dauphin was organized he became quite prominent in political affairs. He strenuously opposed making Harris' Ferry the county seat, justly preferring Middletown, then a village of importance, while the former was not, and where all his business interests were. He was one of the commissioners of the county from 1790 to 1792, and served in the General Assembly from 1793 to 1795. He died on the 1st of May, 1795, in the midst of his sphere of great usefulness, and is interred in the Lutheran graveyard at Middletown. Mr. King married Margaret Toot, daughter of David Toot, and sister of Col. George Toot, b. July 1747; d. Sept. 29, 1782. She was probably his first wife, for by reference to the tombstone records in our possession, we find that Rachel King, wife of Christian King B. in 1763; d. March 22, 1801. Of the children we have no knowledge."
