Military Service | According to the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, Vincent H. Gregg was in the 124th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry. This unit was mostly involved in the western sphere of operations, especially in Tennessee and Georgia. The 124th was "Organized at Richmond, Terre Haute and Indianapolis, Ind., November, 1863, to March, 1864. Mustered in March 10, 1864. Left State for Louisville, Ky., March 19; thence moved to Nashville, Tenn. Attached to 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 23rd Army Corps, Army of the Ohio, to June, 1864. 4th Brigade, 3rd Division, 23rd Army Corps, to August, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 23rd Army Corps, to December, 1864. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 23rd Army Corps, Army of the Ohio, to February, 1865, and Dept. of North Carolina to August, 1865." | |
Obituary | Obit, The Indianapolis Journal 13 Sept. 1895, p2: DR. VINCENT H. GREGG CONNERSVILLE, Ind., Sept. 12 — Dr. Vincent H. Gregg, one of the most widely known physicians of eastern Indiana, died at his home in this city to-day at 2 p.m. He was seventy years of age and had suffered a protracted illness from heart trouble. Dr. Gregg served through the war as surgeon to the First Brigade, First Division, Twenth-Third Army Corps, receiving the rank of Major. In 1869 he began a three years' term as internal revenue collector, and has since been a prominent figure in this district in his chosen profession. The funeral will occur from his late residence at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. | |
