- He was married twice, but Newman does not give a name for his first wife. The three children living with him in the 1850 census, however (Mary E., Washington, and Harriet A.) must be by his first wife, since the marriage license for his second is dated 1848.
Also living with him in 1850 is Mary Fish, aged 60, born in Maryland, with her on real estate valued at $300; very possibly she is a relative of his first wife. She is living with him in 1860 as well, aged 70.
Also living with him in 1860 is William Waters, practicing physician, aged 32, born in Maryland; is William his brother?
Biography: "Born at ‘Belmont,' near Brookeville, Montgomery Co., Md., 1804. Pupil of Dr. Tyler, of Frederick City; M.D. University of Maryland, 1826; immediately began pracctice near Goshen, Montgomery County, continuing it over forty years; the latter part of his life was devoted to farming; served in the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates several terms. Died February 24, 1882." [2]
