  Military Service	Captain of Company A of the 1st/2nd Maryland Battalion, which served under General Steuart. He died leading a charge up Culp's Hill at about 11 in the morning on the third day at Gettysburg. There is a monument to the regiment at Culp's Hill, and a monument to him was erected at Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore. see: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/educ/exhibits/html/bullrun.html for a letter of his. One good source on this family is Daniel Carroll Toomey, Marylanders at Gettysburg (Baltimore: Toomey Press, 1994). At the dedication of the monument (S200), addresses were delivered by Capt. George H. Thomas, Lieut. Andrew C. Trippe, Rev. Randolph H. McKim; then it gives a "Sketch of the Companies," which is a roster of those who died.
