Obituary | Obituaries, Jennings Daily News (Jennings, LA); The Advocate (Baton Rouge) McCoy, Florence Philips Turner Died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the age of 79. Although a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she was a native of El Dorado, Ark., and received a journalism degree from the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was well-known for her many years of volunteer service in the local community and was honored by the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation as a volunteer activist in 1987. She was instrumental in the restoration of Magnolia Mound Plantation as well the establishment of Baton Rouge Project Wildflower. She also served as president of both the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club and the LSU Campus Club, where she founded the Campus Club Scholarship. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, Our Lady of the Lake Altar Society and Foundation for Historical Louisiana. Her activities also included work with the Louisiana Engineering Society Auxiliary, Our Lady of Mercy Altar Society, Louisiana Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the Mental Health Association. She is survived by . . . She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Tarleton Philips and Florence Dunn Philips; her husband Humphreys T. Turner; and her brother, Philip Tarleton Philips Jr. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, from noon until memorial service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev.
