Military Service | Listed in JL Jr.'s SAR application as a Revolutionary War soldier, but the date of his birth precludes that. His father and father-in-law were in the Revolution, however. He was in the War of 1812, a Captain in the 16th Regiment (Porter's) of the Kentucky Volunteer Militia. According to Kendall, "He was a Captain 16th Regiment Kentucky Militia War 1812-14 in Canada. [According to his GG Grandaughter Mary Gregg McCollum,] ‘When he returned home from war his Mother Sarah treated him to a dish of baked apples. That may mean his mother was saving but it might also have meant that Aaron loved baked apples and he did not get any in the army.' Immediately after his marriage he placed his bride beside him on a horse, a feather bed in front of him, and rode to his mother's home at ‘the old pear tree' in Bracken County to live." Histories | ![]() | Quaker Ancestors from Pennsylvania and Delaware The areas that are now northern Delaware and south-eastern Pennsylvania were not distinguished from each other in the 1682 land grant to William Penn. Maps at the time show one geographical area divided by the Susquehanna, Schuykill, and Delaware rivers (with the Potomac farther west, and the Hudson farther east). Separate sets of representatives for the states began to meet in 1704, in Philadelphia and New Castle, though one Governor remained for both, and pre-Revolutionary Delaware remained under the political sway of its more powerful and populous northern neighbor. |
