Obituary | Obit., Morning Oregonian 26 Mar. 1923 (copied from findagrave): PORTLAND HORSEMAN IS KILLED IN CRASH—T. T. Strain Loses Life When Train Hits Auto. POMONA, Cal., March 25, --Louis Burston, motion picture producer of Los Angeles, and Thomas Truxton Strain, horse show promoter of Portland, were killed, and Miss Grace a. Farr of Los Angeles, injured, possibly fatally, tonight when the automobile in which they apparently had been racing a Southern Pacific Train was struck at a grade crossing a mile west of Pomona and hurled 300 feet. Thomas Truxton Strain, horseshow promoter of Portland, Or., also killed, was manager of the Southern California Horse Show, set to open at the Ambassador Arena here April 3. He had been identified with equestrian activities on the Pacific coast for many years. Thomas Truxton Strain originated and managed the first horse show ever held in Portland and continued to handle the event for several years. The show in 1919 was the last he staged and was for the International Livestock exposition. Mr. Strain lived at 1095 Franklin street on Willamette Heights. He is survived by his widow and two children, Sylvia Strain of Portland, and Mrs. Scott of Corvallis, Or. He was about 50 years old. Mr. Strain who had lived in Portland for years, left here in January to manage a horse show at Los Angeles. His last work in this city was in an office in the Chamber of Commerce Building. His family expected him to return her the third week in April. | |
