  Obituary	Obit., Alexandria Gazette (Alexandria, VA), 2 Apr., 1855: Col. Joseph Harris, one of the oldest and most respectable citizens of St. Mary's county, Md., died at the residence of his son, in Charles county, on the 27th ultimo, in the 83rd year of his age. He was appointed clerk of St. Mary's county court in 1794, and held the office for the long period of 49 years, when he tendered his resignation.
