Obituary | Obit., Times-Picayune, 13 Sept. 1943, p2 c; included a photo.: Ensign Pierre Gelpi-Plan Crash Fatal to Orleans Ensign Ensign Pierre Gelpi, U. S. N. B., 21-year-old son of Mrs. Maurice J. Gelpi, 815 Cherokee Street, died Thursday of injuries received when his naval fighter plane crashed at Holtville, Cal., according to word received by his mother. Ensign Gelpi was commissioned last June at the Pensacola naval air station and received operational training at Melbourne, Fla., and carrier training at Chicago, Ill. He reported for duty at the San Diego naval base September 6. He was a graduate of the Fortier High School and attended Tulane University. He is survived also by a brother, Maurice J. Gelpi, Jr. and two sisters, Ruth and Andree Gelpi. | |
