Notes |
- He was called "Papoot" by family. He and his wife lived and died at Esplanade.
In the 1870 census, there is an "A. Gammard" in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, aged 25—born about 1845. I am not sure this is him: an “A. Gammard,” merchant, aged 25, is living in the household of S.A. Sandoz, aged 23, printer, and his wife Alice, aged 19.
In 1880 he appears as “A Gamard” appears on a passenger list for the S.S. City of Mexico traveling from Vera Cruz to New Orleans. Aged 34, male, and merchant. The record says that he “severally belongs” to America, and intends to become an inhabitant of America. [5, 6]
