Notes |
- Houstons of Pequea and Allied Families has her birth date as Mar. 25, 1834.
The Lansdales write that she was from Sam Houston's family. From the ancestry I've seen, however, this can't be true, or it would have to be by a common ancestor from Northern Ireland.
(The only connection to that family i've found is that Allen Strain is buried in Tennessee at the same church as General Sam Houston's mother, Elizabeth Paxton Houston. See here for a story about this and the Baker's Creek Church in Blount County, Tennessee. Both Allen Strain and Sam Houston were born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, and migrated south to Blount County.)
Her two oldest children, Sally and Cornelia, were apparently born in D.C. (as she was), according to the 1880 census, which is where they lived during the War; after that the children were born in Maryland.
General Sam Houston’s family (specifically, his mother) also settled in Blount Co. Tennessee in the first decade of the 19th century, and lived on a farm on Baker Creek. I don’t see that those Houstons are related to this family, though. [2, 5]
