  Obituary	This is from an unrecorded newspaper in Houston, Texas, where she was living when she died: Mrs. Sally Pollock Mannen, 78, died Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lansdale, 814 Kipling Street. Besides her daughter, she is survived by three sons, H.J. Mannen of Oklahoma, A.F. Mannin [sic] of Arizona and Cushman Mannen of Californina, and a brother, James Pollock of Germantown, Ky. Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Rev. C.W. Sprouse will officiate. The body will be sent over the Southern Pacific at 11:30 to San Antonio for burial. The Settegastopf Company will be in charge. Pallbearers will be Robert Putnam, Henry Put[na]m, R. A. Herzog, [ ] E. Hughes, T.E. Jones, and J.F. [Ca]rter.

  Notes	In the 1870 census she is listed as living in her father-in-law's house in Kentucky. Aside from John (age 87), her husband "Lesly" (age 28) and Sally (age 21), there is only "Lizzie" (22), "at home," who is Leslie's sister. The Maysville, Kentucky Evening Bulletin of May 3, 1895, has a notice that "Mrs. Leslie Mannen and daughter, of Germantown, left yesterday afternoon to join Mr. Mannen at their new home in Galena, Kansas." In 1900 she is on the Galena, Cherokee Co., Kansas Census under her husband's household. After her husband died, she stayed in Galena until 1910, when according to the census she is still in Galena; only she (age 59) and her daughter May (age 26) are in the household. They would move to California within the next year, when she sold out or left and went to California with her daughter May. She visited Kentucky on the way, where she buried her husband's ashes. On February 2, 1904, a note appeared in the Kentucky Morning Herald saying that "Mrs. Leslie Mannen and daughter, Miss May, of Galena, Kas., are the guests of Mrs. Amos Turney." When her husband Leslie died in 1905, Sally went to California with her daughter May. It was there that May met John Lansdale Sr. and married ("it was a case of love at first sight," according to JL Sr.). Sally, in these days before Social Security, had nowhere else to go but to stay with her daughter and son-in-law until she died in 1926. She taught her grandson John Lansdale Jr. how to read, and was no doubt a great help to her daughter in many ways. She was called "Mamsy" by her grandson John Lansdale Jr.
