Notes |
- He was a professor of violin; here is one very early biography of his careeer:
International Who's who in Music and Musical Gazetteer. Ed. César Saerchinger. First Ed., New York: Current, 1918. Entry on page 494:
"PITARD, Robert Copley. Violinist and teacher; b. New Orleans, La., Oct. 11, 1873, s. Arthur and Catherine (Copley) P.: related to John Singleton C., artist and Lord Lyndhurst, Lord Chancellor of England; ed. Jesuit Coll., New Orleans, La.; stud. music w. Mark Kaiser in New Orleans, Emanuel Worth, Alexander Friedmann in Berlin; grad. Sern Cons. of Music, Berlin; m. Kate Eagan, Aug. 14, 1906. Played under famous conductors in Europe; dir. of music Belhaven Coll., Jackson, and teacher at Whitworth Col., Brookham, Miss. Address: 851 N. Jefferson St., Jackson, Miss."
A “Robert C. Pitard,” born about 1899, appears in a Jackson, MS 1919 college yearbook. His wife’s grave says “Little Bobbie and his Mother.” It seems that he had a son named Robert? No other record for him seems to exist, however.
He was living with his sister Blanche on the 1920 census, so he would have been married to Orell after that. I can find no marriage record.
