Hood's [sic—should be Hoole’s?] Co., Miss. Lt. Arty., the Hudson Battery), Dec. 26, 1863. Roll Jan. 1 to April 30, 1864, Died. Captured Port Hudson. Ordered to report to Hudson Battery from the Watson Battery by Lt. Gen. Polk. Pitard, N. L., __ Co. -, Orleans Fire Regt. La. Mil. Roll not dated, for active service within the State. According to his service records, he was killed in action on 25 Mar. 1864 in Paducah, Kentucky, “effects taken charge of by his brother Gustave Pitard who was present.” This would have been at the Battle of Paducah, which occurred during a raid north under the command of Gen. N.B. Forrest to capture Union supplies; casualities during the engagement mostly resulted from an ill-advised attack on Fort Anderson. [2, 3] | |
