According to Newman, he served in the militia of Anne Arundel Co, commissioned there in 1776, and then in mid-1780 received a Commission in the Maryland Line. On 1 Jan. 1783 he was assigned to the first Maryland Regiment with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was apparently an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. - This man's family is hard to track. Is there more than one?
All four were of his children were still alive in 1824 when they were complainants in a lawsuit about the slave Minty or Aminta. All four are said to be "infants under twenty-one years of age," which does not seem to jibe with Osgood at least. Basil Burgess in the complaint is said to be their "next friend"—someone who is acting in lieu of another person.
On 31 Dec. 1796 Basil Burgess married Hannah Cleneay in Mason Co. (The same database says that Basil Burgess made a bond to marry Duley Deaver on 4 Feb. 1824, but there is some kind of mistak here. None of the images attached has their names on it.)
In April 1818 in Mason Co., Kentucky, a number of orphans of Basil Burgess appeared in court to be appointed guardians. Basil Burgess is named as "deceased" at the time.
Sally Burgess, infant orphan of Basil Burgess deceased over the age of fourteen years came into court and made choise of William Murphy as her guardian . . .
