- His family had apparently been in the US since the seventeenth century, and ancestors served in the colonial and Revolutionary Wars. See the McQuiston family history for more information.
According to the McCuistion family history, he was "born Aug. 19, 1824, in Bedford Co., Tennessee; was taken to Ray Co., Missouri when a small boy; in 1844 he went to Texas, and settled in 1846 on Onion Creek, Travis Count; served Texas as a ranger and was for many years justice of the peace; voted for the annexation of Texas to the United States; married Becky; he died May 25, 1900, of pneumonia at his home on Onion Creek, the result of the turning over of his buggy in the creek during high waters."
The only person living with him in 1870 is a Susan, aged 24, presumably a daughter; a wife is no-where in evidence. He is living next to a household of McCuistions, HOH Reuben, aged 41. [2]
