Obituary | Note in the New Orleans Times, 12 July 1877, vol. XIII, issue 7340, p4: john H. Bernos was a few years agoe a leading lawyer of New Orleans, and had married a handsome and loving girl of sixteen, who bore him several children when, engagingly excitedly in politics, he took to drinking heavilgy, ruined himself, and deserted his family. Going to Houston, Tex., he married another woman in her ‘teens, and after struggling along as a teacher and vainly striving to get a practice in the minor courts, he died a few weeks ago and was buried in the potter’s field. | |
