James Mannen appears independently on the tax list for the first time in 1813, which implies a birth date abt. 1792. He died intestate, and information about his children comes from probate records. He must have died by June 1832, according to probate documents; settlement of his estate continued until 1835.
Court Order book, June 1832, p507:
Administration of the estate of James Mannen deceased is granted to Mary Mannen who made oath to and entered into an acknowledged bond, with Thomas Cushman as her security there in in the penalty of six hundred dollars conditioned as the law requires. And upon her motion a certificate is granted her for obtaining letters of administration therein in due form.
Court Order book, June 1832, p523:
Inventory and appraisement of the estate of John Mannen deceased was produced in Court and ordered to be recorded. Account of sales in the estate of James Mannen deceased was produced in court and ordered to be recorded. Mary Mannen was the administrator.

Among the purchasers were Mary Mannen, James Boulton, David Cushman, James Ambrose, Elizabeth Thomas, Whitfield Craig, John Mannen, Thomas Mannen, Joseph Cushman, John Kendall.
Probate Records, K-178, Accounting of his personal estate:
Richard and Mary Kirk were named administrators. This is the list of who has been paid after his estate was liquidated. This is key because it names James’ two children. Rudolph Black was married to his mother’s Mary’s sister, Eliza Cushman:
“We the undersigned commissioners appointed to settle the accounts of administrators & do certify that we have examined, stated, and settled the accounts of Richard Kirk and Mary his wife administrators of James Mannen deceased and after allowing the said administrators fifteen dollars and thirty-two cents for commission and and [sic] twenty dollards and five sence the dower of the said administratrix in the personal estate of the said James Mannen deceased find a balance in the hands of the administrators due the said estate of forty dollards and eleven cents, the said settlment was made in the presence of John Mannen one of the heirs of said James Mannen and Rudolph Black guardian for David Mannen another heir of the said James Mannen deceased. Given under our hands the 20th day of April 1835.”

“Account current of the estate of James Mannen deceased was returned in course and ordered to be over until next court.”
Court Order book, July 1835, p263:
“Account current of the estate of James Mannen deceased having been returned at the last May Court and no objections having been made thereto the Court having examined and approved of the same. It is ordered that the said account be recorded.” [5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]
