- He migrated to Kentucky as a young man, in 1796, with his brother James Tolley. He, however, moved to Mason Co., whereas his brother moved to Mercer Co. Thomas Tolley had an estate near Germantown, which is on the border of Mason and Bracken counties.
“Thomas Tolley Worthington settled in Mason county, Kentucky, near Germantown, where he acquired a large estate and became a citizen of weight and influence. He was one of the pioneer judges of Mason county, and by reason of being the oldest magistrate on the bench, succeeded to the office of sheriff, which he held for many years. By his marriage with Arah Whipps, he became the father of a large family of children, among whom was Madison Worthington, born April 10, 1821, and died June 12, 1897, the father of Hon. E.L. Worthington, the subject of this sketch.”
He appears on the 1800 KY census as a taxpayer.
Will Book A, p. 335-36, recorded 21 Dec. 1797, records that Thomas Tolly [sic] Worthington took an oath (?); Jno. Guthridge is named; three slave girls (Eli, Eve, and an unnamed girl) are named.as
"John Mannon" and "Thomas T. Worthington" together signed John Watson's will as witnesses on Sept. 22, 1812. His daughter Rachel married a Thomas Mannen. [3, 5, 6]
