  1. 1.  Marie Louise Josephine Fortunata Mahé-Desportes was born on 5 May 1787 in Arcahaie, Saint-Domingue; was christened on 18 Jun 1788 in Arcahaie, Saint-Domingue (daughter of Jean Etienne Mahé Des Portes and Marguerite Louise Goutelle De Beaumier); died on 11 Jun 1819 in New Orleans, Louisiana; was buried in St. Louis Cemetery #1, New Orleans, Louisiana.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Probate: 8 Sep 1821, New Orleans, Louisiana

    Notes:

Her parents owned a plantation on Saint-Domingue; this seems to have been in the area of Arcahaye, outside of Port au Prince, since his family's records appear in the Arcahaye parish register.

    Baptismal record:

In year one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight, eighteenth day of June, was baptized Marie Josephine Louise Fortune, born the fifth of May of last year, legitimate daughter of Sieur Jean Baptiste Desport Mahe and lady Margueritte Goutelle of Beaumiere . . .

Records for the birthdates (and relations) of Pierre Hacker's children comes from the Archdiocese Records of New Orleans (records of St. Louis Cathedral), especially baptismal records, and parish registers from Saint-Domingue.

She appears in the "General Index of all Successions Opened in the Parish of Orleans from the year 1805 to the year 1846 (comp. P.M. Bertin [Yeomans & Fitch: New Orleans, 1849]) as "Hacker, Marie L.J. Mahe Desportes, wife of. No volume or page number is given (102) (see on archive.org).

Probate document filed by Pierre Hacker after her death:

"Marie Louise Josephine Mahe-Desportes, the wife of your petitioner, departed this life on 11 June 1819, leaving 3 children born of her lawful marriage with your said petitioner, to wit: Jean Baptiste Hacker, about thirteen years and a half, Pierre Hacker about six years and a half, and Marguerite Hacker about four years and a half. That by the laws of the state, he is entitled to the tutorship of his said minor children. Family/Spouse: Pierre Marie Hacker. Pierre (son of Joseph Hacker and Anne Denis) was born on 10 Nov 1782 in Saint-Domingue; was christened on 28 Jan 1783 in Croix-des-Bouquets, Saint-Domingue; died on 13 Apr 1835 in New Orleans, Louisiana; was buried in St. Louis Cemetery #2, New Orleans, Louisiana. Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Jean Etienne Mahé Des Portes was born on 17 Aug 1748 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France (son of Jean Baptiste Rene Mahé-Desportes and Michelle Tanguy).

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Occupation: planter

    Notes:

His marriage record names him “officier des milites et habitant de la d. paroisse de L’arcahaye; natif de Plédran, en Bretagne, évêché St. Brieux; fils majeur et legitime de feu Sieur Jean Baptiste Mahé Desportes, vivant habitant de la d. paroisse de Plédran et de feuë dame Michelle Tanguy.”

He was a plantation owner on St. Domingue. The parish records say that the family lived on Montagne Terrible, above the town of Arcahaye. His children's birth records appear in the Arcahaye parish register.

Domingino gives the name “Tanguy” as a family connection, and gives the family’s place of origin as Plédran.

Another perhaps related name is in the area, Delaunay Mahé, that appears in parish records (as godparents) as early as 1773. They also appear as plantation owners in Domingino.

Charlotte may or may not be his daughter. She is named on her baptismal record as “fille naturale des Mahe Desporte”—that is, not “legitime,” and no parent is named.

His son Henry John Joseph, by Marie Radeau, was also natural but not legitimate. He was baptised at age 15, at which time Marguerite Goutelle was named as his “marraine,” godmother. He was an illegitimate son, and at this point Marguerite recognized him as her son. After the revolution, however, he stayed in the Caribbean, and was later married on Saint Barthélemy.

On the same day that their son Henry Jean Joseph was bapitized two other related baptisms happen: Jean Charles Mahé, son of Charles Mahé and Louise le Fevre; and Pierre Jean Eugene, son of Sieur Pierre Joseph Denys and Catherine Adelaide Desportes. Both are also residents of Montagne Terrible. They were also sponsors at the marriage of Pierre Gogniet and Marie Jeanne Esnard.

This record also appears in the NOLA death records; she may be a child:

    Desportes, Rose Benedictine . . . 70 yrs, F . . . 11/27/1876 . . . vol. 67, page 640

Jean married Marguerite Louise Goutelle De Beaumier on 8 May 1781 in Jacmel, Saint-Domingue. Marguerite (daughter of Antoine Goutelle dit Beaumier and Marguerite Macgille) was born on 10 Jul 1761 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue; was christened on 2 Aug 1761 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue; died on 18 Jul 1836 in New Orleans, Louisiana. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Marguerite Louise Goutelle De Beaumier was born on 10 Jul 1761 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue; was christened on 2 Aug 1761 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue (daughter of Antoine Goutelle dit Beaumier and Marguerite Macgille); died on 18 Jul 1836 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

    Notes:

On the same day that Henry Jean Joseph was baptized two other related baptisms happen:

Jean Charles Mahé, son of Charles Mahé and Louise le Fevre; and Pierre Jean Eugene, son of Sieur Pierre Joseph Denys and Catherine Adelaide Desportes. Both are also residents of Montagne Terrible.

They were also sponsors at the marriage of Pierre Gogniet and Marie Jeanne Esnard.

    Birth:
according to the baptismal record, she was born "le dixe de julliet dernier," and baptized “le duxieme jour” of the next month.

    Died:
as "Margueritte Bontelle de Beaumier Desporte," aged 76 yrs.

    Children:
    1. Marguerite Jeanne Julienne Mahé-Desportes was born about 1787 in Saint-Domingue; died in Jun 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue; was buried on 7 Jun 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue.
    2. 1. Marie Louise Josephine Fortunata Mahé-Desportes was born on 5 May 1787 in Arcahaie, Saint-Domingue; was christened on 18 Jun 1788 in Arcahaie, Saint-Domingue; died on 11 Jun 1819 in New Orleans, Louisiana; was buried in St. Louis Cemetery #1, New Orleans, Louisiana.
    3. Heloise Eulalie Mahé-Desportes was born about 1789; died on 7 May 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue; was buried on 7 May 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue.
    4. Eugenie Mahé-Desportes was born about Nov 1790; died about 8 May 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue; was buried on 8 May 1792 in Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue.

    Notes:

Name is on children’s parish records. He is named “Jean Baptiste Mahe, Sieur des portes” on his wife’s parish burial record.

Jean married Michelle Tanguy on 16 Feb 1746 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France. Michelle (daughter of Noël Tanguy and Marguerite Giquel) was born on 29 May 1722 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France; died on 3 Nov 1774 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Michelle Tanguy was born on 29 May 1722 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France (daughter of Noël Tanguy and Marguerite Giquel); died on 3 Nov 1774 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

    Notes:

Name is on children’s parish records.

    Birth:
She is “age de vingt deux ans” on her marriage record, which proves to be a couple of years off.

    Children:
    1. 2. Jean Etienne Mahé Des Portes was born on 17 Aug 1748 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    2. Thérèse Marguerite Mahé was born on 11 Jun 1750 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

    7. Marie Theresa Mahé was born on 28 Aug 1759 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

  3. 6.  Antoine Goutelle dit Beaumier was born in 1715 in Saint-Privat, Tulle, Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France (son of Antoine Goutelle and Anne Dessirie).

    Notes:

His name appears on his daughter's baptismal record. He was abt. 55 at his second marriage, “natife de Leonot diocèse de Tulle, pariosse de Saint-Privat, fils de Antoine Goutelle et Dame Jeanne de Viray, feu père at mère, veuf en première nôces de feùe Dame Margueritte Macgille, habitant a la Grande Riviére de ce Quartiér . . .”

Note the following reference. The parish of Saint-Privat seem to be Saint-Privat 19237, Tulle, Corrèze, which was part of the viscounty of Turenne. The département of Corrèze was formed out of Bas-Limousin.

    ARNAUD (colonel Étienne) : «[Famille GOUTELLE de BAUMIER, Bas-Limousin - Saint-Domingue, XVIIIe s.]», La France Généalogique (Limoges, 1983), 25e année, volume 25, n°144, page 257:

Antoine married Marguerite Macgille on 14 Feb 1752 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue. Marguerite (daughter of Michel Macgille and Margaret Broune) was born about 1730. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 7.  Marguerite Macgille was born about 1730 (daughter of Michel Macgille and Margaret Broune).

    Notes:

Her name comes from daughter's baptismal record. She does not seem to appear in Baynet records.

In Jacmel in 1737 Pierre Girard, native of La Rochelle, took a profession of faith and was then married to Catherine King “dite le Roy native de ce quartier de Jacmel paroisse de St. Phillip et St. Jacques, filles mineure de feu Sieur Jean King dit le Roy natif d’Antigue et de Dame Honeure Macgill native de Mountserrat ses Peres et Merese.” A witness to the profession and the marriage was Myles Macgill. When their child Marie Catherine was born in 1741 in Jacmel, they were named Pierre Girard and Catherine LeRoy (and Myles MacGill is a witness). Pierre Girard died in 1744 in Jacmel.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Etienne Mahé was born about 1676 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France; died on 23 Apr 1767 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

    Notes:

His name appears on son’s birth record; on his marriage record he is named Sieur de Grandmaison. The appellation is also on his parish death record, which gives his age as “quatre vingt onze ans,” 91 years. His parents’ names are not on his marriage record, though it does say that he is from Plédran.

A number of sites say that he was the son of Julien Mahé (1651-1721) Sieur de la Villehéry, and was born in Plédran in June 1689, though I don’t see his parish birth record there.

They seem to have had a number of other children as well.

Etienne married Thérèse Mahé on 11 Feb 1710 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France. Thérèse and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Thérèse Mahé and died.

    Notes:

Her maiden last name is Mahé. Her marriage record says that she is from St. Mathurin de Moncontour. It does not, however, tell her parents’ last names. It’s a bit of an unusual record in that she was not married in her home parish.

They seem to have had a number of other children as well.

    Children:
    1. 4. Jean Baptiste Rene Mahé-Desportes was born on 14 Jun 1714 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France; died on 10 Jan 1775 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    2. Thérèse Jeanne Mahé was born on 11 Sep 1718 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

  3. 10.  Noël Tanguy and died.

    Notes:

Name mentioned on children’s marriage records in Plaintel. At the same time as their marriage a Jan Guiqel and Anne Tanguy were married. Neither couple’s parents are named, however.

The name Tanguy (Tangui, Tainguy, etc.) appears in quite a few places in the Plédran & Plaintel parish records. The two towns are separated by about 5-10 km.

Noël married Marguerite Giquel on 19 Jul 1710 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France. Marguerite and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 11.  Marguerite Giquel and died.

    Notes:

Name mentioned on children’s marriage records in Plaintel. “Giquel” appears through Plaintel records at the time. Neither couple’s parents are named, however.

At the same time as their marriage a Jan Guiqel and Anne Tanguy were married.

    Children:
    1. Yves Tanguy was born on 18 Jul 1712 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    2. Jan Tanguy was born on 25 Jan 1715 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    3. Noël Tanguy was born on 16 Sep 1716 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    4. Marguerite Tanguy was born on 29 Mar 1718 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    5. Angelique Marie Tanguy was born on 23 Jun 1720 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France; died on 16 Sep 1721 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.
    6. 5. Michelle Tanguy was born on 29 May 1722 in Plaintel, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France; died on 3 Nov 1774 in Plédran, Côtes d'Armor, Bretagne, France.

  5. 12.  Antoine Goutelle and died.

    Notes:

    A variant might be "Goutail".

Antoine married Anne Dessirie. Anne and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  6. 13.  Anne Dessirie and died.

    Notes:

I take her name from her son Antoine’s marriage record.

    Children:
    1. 6. Antoine Goutelle dit Beaumier was born in 1715 in Saint-Privat, Tulle, Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.

  7. 14.  Michel Macgille was born about 1693 in Montserrat, Leeward Islands, Western Antilles; died on 5 Jan 1750 in Baynet, Saint-Domingue.

    Notes:

Named in son Jean Baptiste’s marriage record.

Burial record: “Michel Macgille natif de Monsara agee d’énviron cinquante size a cinquante sept ans et habitante de cette paroisse”

Michel married Margaret Broune. Margaret was born about 1689 in Montserrat, Leeward Islands, Western Antilles; died on 19 Sep 1754 in Jacmel, Saint-Domingue. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  8. 15.  Margaret Broune was born about 1689 in Montserrat, Leeward Islands, Western Antilles; died on 19 Sep 1754 in Jacmel, Saint-Domingue.

    Notes:

Perhaps “Brown”? She is “Bron” on her daughter’s marriage record.

"The body of the deceased Margueritte Broune, a native of Monsarrat, Isle du Vent, aged about sixty-five years. The surviving widow Macgille, inhabitant of Benest, died at the home of Madame Le Brosse her daughter, provided with the holy sacraments of our mother holy Church. . . "

    Children:
    1. Jean Baptiste Macgille was born in 1727 in St. Martin, Windward Islands.
    2. 7. Marguerite Macgille was born about 1730.
