See the notes on his wife, and his daughter; he may not belong here.

James married Elizabeth Lansdale on 2 Dec 1794 in Prince George's Co., Maryland. Elizabeth (daughter of Isaac Lansdale, II and Eleanor Crabb) was born in abt. 1760-65; died in Dec 1802. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 7.  Elizabeth Lansdale was born in abt. 1760-65 (daughter of Isaac Lansdale, II and Eleanor Crabb); died in Dec 1802.

    Notes:

Maria Horner Lansdale says that she died unmarried, but there is a record of an Elizabeth Lansdale who married James Belt in Prince George's County, which Pountney gives as her.

There may well be a problem, however. Violetta, listed as her daughter, is named "Violetta Lansdale" in her marriage record. Perhaps Violetta is NOT her daughter, and James is NOT her husband. Violetta IS “Violetta Lansdale Belt” in her marriage record in Greene.

    Children:
    1. 3. Violetta J. Belt was born on 1 Apr 1802 in Maryland; died on 19 Apr 1863; was buried in Waring Family Cemetery, Mitchellville, Prince George's Co., Maryland.

Generation: 5

  1. 28.  Isaac Lansdale, I was born about 1686 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England (son of John Lansdale and Elizabeth); died before 20 Nov 1733 in Queen Anne, Prince George's Co., Maryland.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Immigration: Bef 1715
    • Probate: 20 Nov 1733, Prince George's Co., Maryland

    Notes:

The tradition is that three Lansdale brothers immigrated from England to Prince George's and Lower Montgomery Counties; this seems to have happened around 1700, give or take a decade (probably give). The “Three brothers” tradition appears in a lot of families; it might be because there were several and no-one knew how they were related.

According to Henry Hutton's notes, two were apparently named William and Thomas. If these names are correct, I don't know whether John was the third, or (his son) Isaac—I’d assume the latter, since he was born in England and died in Maryland. Hutton also goes on to say that William was "the father of Dr. Philip Lansdale and Mrs. Ed. B. Duval"—he's referring to William Moylan Lansdale.

According to Effie G. Bowie, "Isaac Lansdale I, born in Leicestershire, England, about 1686; settled at Queen Anne, Prince George's Co., MD where he owned a plantation, "Rich Thicket"; merchant; imported goods from Philip South of London; Warden of Queen Ann parish; vestryman; d. before August, 1733, in which year Thomas Lancaster, his wife's brother, administered his estate. He marryed Margaret, daughter of Richard Lancaster, merchant of London and Prince George's County."

According to Barnes, he "arrived in Maryland by 1719" and was "in PG Co. by 3 March 1725 when he was listed as a creditor of Susannah Mitchell. He d. by 10 July 1734 when Thomas Lancaster was mentioned as his admin."

    Immigration:
This was when his first child was born in Maryland.

    Probate:

Isaac married Margaret Lancaster about 1714. Margaret (daughter of Richard Lancaster) was born about 1695 in England; died after 1733. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 29.  Margaret Lancaster was born about 1695 in England (daughter of Richard Lancaster); died after 1733.

    Notes:

She is named “Mary” in Digges and Pountney Davis.

    Died:
She is named on her husband's account inventory at this date with her oldest child Elizabeth.

  3. 30.  Ralph Wright Crabb was born in 1694 (son of Living); died in 1734.

    Notes:

He was a justice in Anne Arundel County in 1720.

Ralph married Priscilla Sprigg on 22 Aug 1716. Priscilla (daughter of Thomas Sprigg, Jr. and Margaret Mariarte) was born about 1700; died about 1763. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 31.  Priscilla Sprigg was born about 1700 (daughter of Thomas Sprigg, Jr. and Margaret Mariarte); died about 1763.
