Obituary | Obituary, Times-Picayune, Weds., 16 Mar. 1904: JAMES F. TURNBULL. Death of a Prominent and Popular Young Citizen. James Frederick Turnbull, a prominent young citizen, and a valuable employee of Delgado & Co., died yesterday morning at his residence, No. 1153 Magazine Street, after a week’s illness. He was born in this city forty years ago. He received his education here and at an early age began the career which was so full of promise. Mr. Turnbull was the third son of Mar. Brisbane Marshall Turnbull and the late Marie Louise Collens, daughter of Judge T. Wharton Collens, of this city. He associated himself with the old Planter’s Refinery when quite young, and he left this company to accept a position with Barkley & Co. Fifteen years ago he entered the employ of Delgado & Co., with which firm he remained as a faithful and exemplary attaché up to the time of death. He was the general utility man, possessing rare knowledge of the business and a marked inclination to discharge his duties with will and determination. Mr. Turnbull was of a lovable disposition, simple in all his practices, and a gentleman in every particular. Mr. Turnbull is survived by his wife and two children, the youngest being a daughter 18 months old, and the other a son nearly 4 years of age. He also leaves three brothers—Martin Turnbull, publisher of the Democrat-Star, at Scranton, Miss.; Paul W. and J.W. Turnbull. In addition, two sisters are left to mourn his loss. They are Sister Mary Frederika, of the Newsboy’s Home, and Sister Mary Carmella, who is located at Dearborn, Mich. J.T. Sullivan, who was married to the deceased’s sister who died nine months ago, arrived from Memphis last night to attend the funeral. The latter is connected with the Illinois Central. The funeral will take place this forenoon at 10:30, interment to be in St. Louis Cemetery. Turnbull and the late Louisa Collens, aged 40 years.
