Obituary | Obit. article, Times-Picayune, 30 Oct. 1967, p8: Dean Emeritus of Loyola Dies. Dr. Gamard Taught in School of Dentistry. Dr. Edward A. Gamard Sr., dean emeritus of the Loyola University School of Dentistry, died at his home in Batonr Rouge at 6:20 a.m. Sunday at the age of 91. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Gamard had been a proessor of operative dentistry at Loyola for 30 years prior to his retirement. He resided in Baton Rouge at the time of his death. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery. Rabenhorst Funeral Home of Batonr Rouge is in charge. An 1899 graduate of the University of Maryland, Dr. Gamard also head a degree from teh American College of Dentistry in 1938. He was secretary of teh board of directors of the Loyola School of Dentistry and held memberships in American Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Associatin and the new Orleans Fifth District Dental Association. Survivors include a son, Dr. Edward A. Gamard Jr. of Pass Christian, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. C.L. Daniel of Baton Rouge, Mrs. C.W. Weiderecht of New Orleans and Mrs. A.R. Marschall of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Dr. Gamard, who resided at 4667 Arnold Lane, Baton Rouge, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday in Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Services were held at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church with burial in Metairie Cemetery. For 30 years, he was a professor of operative dentistry at Loyola. He was secretary of the school’s board of directors and a fellow of the American College of Dentistry since 1938. A native of New Orleans, he was graduated from the University of Maryland in 1899 and held memberships in the American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, Louisiana State Dental Society and Xi Psi Phi. He retired in 1962. Survivors include a son, Dr. Edward Gamard Jr., Pass Christian, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. C.L. (Lucille) Daniel, Baton Rouge, Mrs. C.W. (Amy) Wiederech [sic], New Orleans, Mrs. A.R. (Mary Elaine) Marschall, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchidren. | |
