- He and his wife had 11 children. According to Welsh, "In 1778, as Jn. Welsh, Sr., he signed the ‘Patriot's Oath' in A.A. Co. (See ‘Oath of Allegiance,' Col. 3, p. 47, Md. Hist. Soc. This list of 1980 persons in A.A. Co. who took the "Oath of Fidelity and support to the State of Maryland" in 1778, is also found in the D.A.R. Mag., vol. 51, 1817). The service of Jn. Welsh., Sr., as a patriot, and as a Justice of the Peach for A.A. Co. in 1774 and 1775 (Commission Book., Md. Hist. Soc., pp. 202-205-207) has been accepted for membership in the D.A.R."
